FOX SPORTS is reporting that the Padres are closing to add free agent Jerry Hairston Jr. This comes just a day after the Padres added brother Scott Hairston in the Kevin Kouzmanoff trade; this will be the first time they have played together professionally, other than for Team Mexico in the WBC.
In 644 at-bats over the past two seasons — the approximate equivalent of one full season — Hairston has batted .281 with 16 home runs and 75 RBIs.
Hairston will serve as a super utility player, able to play second, third, and shortstop, along with three outfield positions.
