  • Sources say the Mets have expanded their search for a first baseman and are looking at Carlos Delgado, Russell Branyan, and Hank Blalock. They do not have too much left to spend, but if they wait long enough, they should be able to land a first baseman at the right price. 
  • ESPN.com is updating itself on a previous story that the Cubs are interested in Jermaine Dye in a backup role. Bleed Cubbie Blue's Al Yellon reports from the Cubs Convention that the team would like to add another bat or arm before spring training. 
  • The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel is reporting that the Brewers remain in contact with Doug Davis and Jarrod Washburn, but that nothing is imminent. One NL source I spoke with believes the team will look more closely into adding another starter if their division rivals, the Cubs or Cardinals, beef up their starting rotations.
  •   The Rangers signed a 16-year old Colombian catcher Jorge Alfaro. 
  • The 17-year pitcher Kevin Quintanilla out of El Salvador agreed to a deal with the Mariners.  
  • Felipe Lopez is coming up as a possible option for the Cardinals at third base, according to MLB.com. The Cardinals would like to find a corner infielder who can play multiple positions.
