The Cubs and Chad Tracy have agreed to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training, according to ESPN Chicago. If Tracy makes the big league roster, he will earn 900,000 dollars plus a possible 525,000 if he reaches 450 plate appearances.
Tracy, who hit .237 with 8 home runs last season, will compete with infielder/outfielder Micah Hoffpauir for a spot on Lou Piniella's bench.
Adding Tracy gives the Cubs a little insurance in the event that Aramis Ramirez goes down with an injury. Tracy is career ,280 hitter with a .339 on-base percentage.
