Athletics acquire outfielder David DeJesus

The Athletics strike first this offseason in their acquisition of outfielder David DeJesus, who was traded from the Royals for pitchers Vin Mazzaro and Justin Marks. DeJesus, who has been type-casted to the trade block for nearly two seasons, hit .318 in 91 games with 5 home runs and a .384 on-base percentage.

DeJesus is a career .289 hitter who has put up the best numbers of his career over the past three seasons, but has not put up the attractive production totals that made teams want to pull a deal.

The Royals acquire right Vin Mazzaro, 24, who in his second big league season posted a 6-8 record in 24 appearances and a 4.27 ERA. Marks, 22, went 3-1 with a 4.58 ERA 5 appearances at High-A, and 20 appearances in Single-A with a 3-12 record and a 4.92 ERA.
