The Pirates shipped left-hander Zach Duke to the Diamondbacks for a player to be named later, according to MLB.com. Duke was designated for assignment by the Pirates earlier this week and will now be sporting a new uniform on a team under new management.
Duke has always had the ability to pitch, but has never been on a team that puts up legitimate run support. Duke was 8-15 with 29 starts and a 5.72 ERA and a 1.65 WHIP this past season, and has not had a winning season since his rookie year back in 2005.
Duke gives the Dbacks added depth in the rotation which should be good in the long-term for the Diamondbacks, a team in need of pitching. The Pirates will likely land a low-level minor league pitcher.
