The Florida Marlins have agreed to a one year contract with free agent starting pitcher Javier Vazquez, Jon Paul Morosi reported today. Ken Rosenthal reported that Vazquez will make $6-7 million this upcoming season.
Vazquez has many reasons for wanting this deal. He lives in nearby Puerto Rico, and even has a house in Florida. Vazquez will also look to rebuild his value following a horrendous season with the Yankees.
Expect Vazquez to improve, as his 2010 season wasn't all bad. In June Vazquez pitched to a 3.23 ERA and in July a 3.34 ERA. In the whole 2010 season, Vazquez was 10-10 with a 5.32 ERA.
