Braves Sign Independent Leaguer Beau Torbert To Deal

The Braves have decided to give slugger Beau Torbert of the Independent League team Sioux Falls Pheasants a chance to play in the big leagues.  The Braves signed the 27-year old to a minor league deal according to David O'Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Torbert, just finished his third season with the Pheasants where he put up astounding numbers, hitting .400 with 24 home runs and 100 runs batted in in 95 games.  Torbert was originally drafted by the Houston Astros in 2004 before being released in 2007.  Torbert never made it to the major league level.

Torbert has won 2 American Association MVP awards and was named the Independent league's player of the year.
