Updates from the Winter Meetings

  • The Diamondbacks have signed infielder Melvin Mora to a two year deal worth 4 million dollars, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com. Mora did well with the Rockies in 2010, posting a .285 average with a .358 OBP in 113 games (316 at-bats). He will serve as a utility man after playing first, second, and third base, as well as some left field.
  • The Pirates are close to a one year deal with free agent Scott Olsen. Olsen, who posted a 4.20 ERA in 2008, has put up ERA's well over five since. He will certainly have a spot in their rotation, which will give him an opportunity to revitalize his career.
  • The Cubs, Nationals, and Rangers remain interested in free agent Brandon Webb. The Cubs are an intruiging possibility because they prefer to spend well on players bouncing back from injuries, like Ryan Dempster and Xavier Nady recently, and give them a chance to come back strong with a perennial contender.
  • The Mets met with the agent of free pitcher Jeff Francis
  • ESPN.com's Jerry Crasnick is reporting that the Astros will move Carlos Lee over to first base. This puts them in the market for an outfielder.
  • Adrian Beltre is seeking a five year deal worth 85 million dollars.
  • The Phillies are interested in Jeff Francoeur
  • The Angels are interested in closer Rafael Soriano, according to ESPN.com.
