ESPN.com's Tim Kurkijan is reporting that the Nationals are closing in on free agent second baseman Orlando Hudson. The deal is believed to be in the range of 3-6 million dollars, including incentives, which would be a huge steal for the Nationals.
Hudson hit .283 in 149 games for the Dodgers last season, but effectively lost his starting spot to Ronnie Belliard down the stretch. Regardless, Hudson is a phenomenal hitter with good speed and instincts on the base path. He would fit in perfectly with the young core of talent the Nationals possess.
UPDATE: MLB.com's Bill Ladson is reporting that the Rockies, Indians, and an unknown AL team are in the mix for Orlando Hudson. Ladson says the Twins are not in the mix.
