Rockies, Marlins finalists for Kevin Gregg

The Denver Post is reporting that the Rockies and Marlins are finalists for free agent closer Kevin Gregg. The Post says the Rockies are offering him the set up role while the Marlins are offering him the closer job, so it'll be interesting to see where he decides.

Remember, the Marlins shipped Gregg to Chicago before the 2009 season and it is uncertain how he feels about his former organization. Joining the NL West, in Coors Field, may not be ideal for the type of pitcher Gregg is. Gregg has a tendency to leave his fastball out and over the plate, ideal for hitters (especially in later innings when hitters will sit on a fastball)

The 31-year old right-hander posted a 4.72 ERA and a 1.31 WHIP in 72 games last season for the Cubs. Gregg had a strong June and July, posting a 2.35 ERA in 27 games. However, Gregg's August-September numbers were downright atrocious; Gregg had a 8.35 ERA in his final 22 games.
