Mets extend offer to Rod Barajas

Jon Heyman SI.com is reporting that the Mets have extended a minor league offer to free agent catcher Rod Barajas. This comes after months of back-and-forth negotiating between the two sides, which has left the Mets without an everyday catcher the day pitchers and catchers are supposed to report.

Barajas hit just .226 last season with the Blue Jays, and is a career .238 hitter. Barajas can hit for some power, but he is a good defensive catcher and would be a huge upgrade over Omir Santos

Barajas and the Mets appear to be a match. Not many other teams are offering Barajas a deal where he will ultimately be an everyday starter.
