The Indians and Russell Branyan have agreed to a one year deal worth 2 million dollars, according to ESPN.com's Buster Olney. The deal includes a 5 million dollar option for the 2011 season.
Branyan is coming off a career year in Seattle, hitting a career high 31 home runs in 116 games.
Branyan will give the Indians time to ease prospect Matt LaPorta back into the position. LaPorta is coming off of several surgeries and may start the season in Triple-A.
Branyan joins an already left-handed lineup with Travis Hafner, Luis Valbuena, switch hitter Asdrubal Cabrera, Michael Brantley, Grady Sizemore, and Shin-Soo Choo.
