The Marlins are showing interest in free agent first baseman Hank Blalock, according to Jon Heyman of SI.com. Blalock hit .234 with 25 home runs last season, but struggled in the second half posting a .201 average.
Blalock drew mild interest from the Giants earlier in the offseason, but they went with Aubrey Huff and Blalock remains available.
It is evident that the Marlins are not fully comfortable with Gaby Sanchez at first base everyday, and bringing in someone like Blalock will give Sanchez more time to adjust to the major leagues.
If he signs with the Marlins, he could become a midseason trade candidate.
