Athletics pitcher Dana Eveland was designated for assignment last week, meaning he can be claimed by any team should he be put on waivers. Eveland struggled mightily in 13 games for the A's, posting a 7.16 ERA.
Eveland came over from the Diamondbacks in the Dan Haren trade, and A's GM Billy Beane spoke highly of Eveland in an interview with MLB Daily Dish:
Of the players we got, the guy that has the best chance is Dana Eveland. He has seen some time in the big leagues and has the chance to be the hard throwing lefty we need. He deserves the opportunity.
If the Diamondbacks make a move for Eveland, not only would they have to take someone off the 40-man roster, but he would have to make the team out of spring training or else be designated for assignment again (he is out of options).
