Quick Hits

  • The New York Post reports that the Orioles do not have interest in trading for a perennial power hitter like Adrian Gonzalez. Clearly, they are more focused on building from within than expanding their payroll with additions from outside the organization.
  • Although this was widely speculated, Ken Rosenthal has word from the Blue Jays that they will not accept fringe prospects for relievers Scott Downs or Jason Frasor
  • Rule 5 pick Jorge Jimenez has been returned to the Red Sox from the Marlins. The Marlins tried very hard to acquire the right-hander before returning him, but they couldn't work anything out. Jimenez was acquired as a part of the Matt Lindstrom trade, orginally selected by Houston in the draft.
  • The Rangers acquired Matt Treanor from the Brewers for infielder Ray Olmedo. The Rangers need catching depth with Jarrod Saltalamacchia's arm in question and the Brewers hope they can benefit from the 28-year old utility infielder.
  • Sources say the Rays are pursuing relief options on the market, even looking at Joe Beimel. Heath Bell is available, but that would likely cost them a top pitching prospect.
