The Athletics have acquired Edwar Ramirez from the Rangers for infielder Gregorio Petit, according to Rotoworld.com. The Rangers, who acquired Ramirez this month from the Yankees, optioned him to Triple-A before the trade.

The 28-year-old had a 5.73 ERA and 1.95 WHIP in 22 innings last season, but is just one season removed from posting a 3.90 ERA and 10.2 K/9. Oakland is one of the best possible spots for his high flyball rate.

Ramirez has a chance to be a reliever in the middle innings, perhaps slotted somewhere for the sixth or seventh inning. He has solid secondary pitches and could benefit from regular work, even if does not render him incredibly successful.

Petit struggled last season at both Triple-A and at the major league level, but can play all around the infield and is expected to fill the role that Khalil Greene was signed to fill. If you don't remember, Greene was released because of lingering anxiety issues.
