The Mets and Kiko Calero finally agreed to a minor league deal with an invitation to spring training, according to MLB.com.
Calero had a nice season for the Marlins in 2009, compiling a 1.95 ERA in 67 relief appearances, striking out 69 batters and walking 30 in 60 innings. But the 35-year-old right-hander did not land a Major League contract this offseason amid concerns about his injury history.
Calero is a solid addition to the club if he can stay healthy, but concerns over his repaired rotator cuff and his shoulder that have bothered him over parts of the past three seasons. Still, with Kelvin Escobar's return in question, Calero gives the team a solid eighth-inning set up man.
