Cubs fear the worst for Angel Guzman

UPDATE: Cubs pitcher Angel Guzman has a torn ligament in his shoulder. He has yet to decide to have surgery or not.

For Cubs fans, it is already an all too familiar story.

Once a highly-touted prospect, Angel Guzman came on the scene in 2009 and posted the best numbers of his young career, showing fans and coaches that they hype was real. However, Guzman has fallen behind his teammates dealing with knee and shoulder issues, most recently being sent for an MRI on his throwing shoulder.

Guzman was one of the teams main clogs in the bullpen in '09, posting a 2.95 ERA, 1.05 WHIP, and striking out 47 to just 23 walks. Guzman also logged his first major league win, a long time coming since his major league debut in 2006.

If the Cubs lose Guzman for an extended period of time, the Cubs will be forced to rely heavily on young pitchers Jeff Stevens, Esmalin Caridad, and John Gaub

They lost out on Chan Ho Park and Kiko Calero, and the free agent market for relievers is now very thin.
