Mets designate Mike Jacobs for assignment

The Mets announced that they have designated first baseman Mike Jacobs for assignment. Jacobs hit .208 in seven games this season before being reassigned, a disappointing action considering he was in the mix to beat out Daniel Murphy for the first base job.

Jacobs was traded to the Royals for Leo Nunez before the 2009 season, but he hit a weak .228 with 19 home runs, a year after hitting 32 home runs with the Marlins

He will certainly be picked up elsewhere, but it will have to be on a minor league deal.
