A couple announcements, DL additions, and disappointed fan bases...
- Pirates catching prospect Tony Sanchez is feeling tenderness in his right shoulder, according to Rocco DeMaro via Twitter. Sanchez is hitting .379 with 2 home runs in 8 games at Class-A, a year after hitting .309 in 48 games with 7 home runs. Sanchez, the teams first-round draft pick last June, will certainly be given time off to make a full recovery. This would be a huge blow to the Pirates organization if he goes down for an extended period of time.
- Rays catcher Kelly Shoppach will be out for 4-6 weeks recovery from right knee surgery. Shoppach has flashes of power, and has fairly good game-calling skills, so this is a pretty big blow for the red-hot Rays. John Jaso (who?) has been called up in his place.
- Once a top prospect, now Orioles outfielder Felix Pie will be out for up to three months recovering from a muscle injury in his back. The back can be tricky, and hopefully this is a speedy recovery for the 25 year old.
- Mets shortstop Jose Reyes asked for a day off on Monday, which has been granted. He is still making his way back from thyroid issues, and the Mets want to do everything they can to keep him healthy and off the disabled list.
