FOXSports.com is reporting that free agent right-hander Braden Looper threw in front of Cubs officials on Tuesday. Looper's role with the team has yet to be defined, but he would certainly benefit the injury depleted bullpen, which it seems has blown more games than saved this season.
Looper, 35, posted 14 wins and a 5.22 ERA last season with the Cardinals, and would probably need a minor league assignment to get back into playing shape.
The Cubs already have plans to push Tom Gorzelanny or Carlos Silva into the bullpen to make room for Ted Lilly, and one more arm may give the Cubs some stability as we push into the later months of the season.
