Dominican prospect Wagner Mateo has finally signed with the Diamondbacks, according to the Diamondbacks official website. The 17-year old prospect will earn 512 K, a steep drop off from the 3.1 million dollar deal originally signed with St. Louis in July.
However, the Cardinals decided to release Mateo over concerns with his vision. He was linked to the Giants over the offseason, but a contract never materialized.
Mateo, who stands at 6-foot-2 and 190 pounds, is considered a five-tool prospect. Overall, a nice signing for the Diamondbacks who may really benefit from the move.
