Dodgers release Doug Mientkiewicz

The Dodgers have released first baseman Doug Mientkiewicz, opting for outfielder Garrett Anderson as the left-handed bat off the bench. The team offered Mientkiewicz a coaching position, but he says he wants to continue playing.

The team waited to release Mientkiewicz in case Anderson could not stay healthy, despite his own lingering shoulder injury.

Now, he will search for a job but it would have to be a Triple-A assignment, at least at first. The 36-year old is a career .271 hitter.
