The Yankees have signed right-hander Chad Gaudin despite him being the odd-man out this spring. Gaudin struggled in 12 appearances for the Athletics before he was released, and the Yankees hope that he can return to '09 form when he posted a 3.43 ERA in 11 games for the Yankees.
The Yankees agreed to terms to re-sign Gaudin on Wednesday, according to a source, adding him to their bullpen as a long reliever. Gaudin's arrival may mean that the Yankees received bad news on Alfredo Aceves, who suffered a setback with his injured back on Tuesday and could be headed for surgery to repair a herniated disk.
Gaudin will give the Yankees some added depth in the bullpen down the stretch.
