Blue Jays designate Edwin Encarnacion for assignment

The Blue Jays designated third baseman Edwin Encarnacion for assignment today, making him available to the rest of the majors via the waiver wire. The 27-year old is hitting just .200 this season with 9 home runs.

In two seasons with the Jays, both abbreviated, Encarnacion hit .220 with 17 home runs. He will be eligible for arbitration at the end of the season so teams will likely wait until the Jays inevitably release him, instead of paying him the 2.7 million dollars he is making this season.

Encarnacion is also known to have a pretty bad attitude, a problem which once sent him to Triple-A and was speculated as the reason he was shipped out of Cincinnati. When he does get picked up, it may be his last chance to prove he can be an everyday player.
