The Cubs decided to suspend Carlos Zambrano indefinitely after getting into a verbal altercation with Derrek Lee in the dugout after surrendering four earned runs in the first inning. This is just another bump in the Carlos Zambrano saga, but this incident may be the one that the Cubs say 'all right, that is enough."
Finding a taker for Zambrano, who has two years and 38 million left on his contract with a 19 million dollar vesting option for the 2013 season, will be a difficult task. Zambrano is only 3-6 with a 5.66 ERA in 22 appearances this season, very poor numbers for a supposed ace.
Zambrano could certainly be bought on a bargain deal, but finding a way to split his salary will be very difficult. The Cubs, sources say, are expected to shop several players within the next month, including Kosuke Fukudome, Ted Lilly, and Jeff Baker, but could easily throw Big Z into the mix.
