Angels acquire Alberto Callaspo from Royals

The Angels have traded minor league pitchers Sean O'Sullivan and Will Smith in exchange for infielder Alberto Callaspo. Callaspo, 27, is hitting .275 with 8 home runs with 43 runs batted in. He has posted a low .308 on-base percentage, but he has only struck out 29 times to just 19 walks and a BABIP of .278.

Callaspo will help out at second, third, and shortstop, and the Angels hope the added depth will give them a boost to reach the postseason. O'Sullivan is 1-0 in 5 appearances with a 2.08 ERA, but was 5-5 with a 4.76 ERA for the Triple-A Salt Lake Bees.

Smith, a seventh round pick in the 2008 draft, owns a 5.53 ERA in 19 appearances this season.
