The Diamondbacks are working on a deal that would send catcher Chris Snyder to the Pirates in exchange for D.J. Carrasco, Bobby Crosby, and Ryan Church. It is not clear how much money the Diamondbacks will include in the deal, but the fact that he Diamondbacks are taking on Church and Crosby makes me think the Pirates will take on a good portion of the contract.
Church and Crosby really won't help the Diamondbacks too much. Church could maybe find some time in left field splitting with Gerado Parra, but he is hitting worse than Parra and is nearly ten years older. Crosby is hitting a weak .224 but could be used to give Stephen Drew a day off every now and then.
Carrasco is having a solid season for the Pirates, posting a 3.88 ERA in 45 appearances. He will benefit the Diamondbacks, especially now that the team has also shipped Chad Qualls to the Tampa Bay Rays for a player to be named later.
Qualls is having an awful year, but he is not a bad pitcher by any means. He owns a 3.74 ERA and the Rays hope a change of scenery will benefit him.
