The St. Louis Cardinals, Cleveland Indians, and San Diego Padres have agreed on a three team deal that will send Jake Westbrook to the Cardinals, prospects to the Indians, and Ryan Ludwick to the Padres. The deal was called official by Bob Nightengale after many other outlets reported the deal as being in the works.
The Cardinals will have the best rotation in baseball with this acquisition, as their one through four starters consist of Chris Carpenter, Adam Wainwright, Jaime Garcia, and Jake Westbrook. The move should assist them in their quest for the NL Central title. The Cardinals will also receive AA pitcher Nicholas Greenwood from the Padres. (via Tom Krasovic)
The Indians will receive Corey Lubker, a AA pitcher from the Padres with a 3.45 ERA. (according to Nightengale)
The Padres receive Ryan Ludwick, a solid offensive outfielder. Ludwick will add much needed offense to the Padres, as Ludwick is hitting .281/.343/.484 with 11 home runs and 43 RBI's on the season.
