The Cubs, set to play the third game of a four game series against the Giants, traded second baseman Mike Fontenot to the Giants in exchange for minor leaguer Evan Crawford. The Giants placed Edgar Renteria on the disabled list to make room for Fontenot and the Cubs called up infielder Darwin Barney to take his spot on the roster.
"It's been tough in that aspect but as far as my performance, I've been pretty happy," Fontenot said. "There have been times when I would have liked to get out there and play more. Things didn't go the way we wanted to early in the season. In the end, I felt pretty good this year."
Fontenot lost some playing time with the addition of Starlin Castro, but still managed to put together a solid season thus far.
Crawford, 22, was a ninth round pick out of the 2009 draft. He is hitting just .255 with 12 doubles, 12 triples, 24 stolen bases, and 4 home runs this season in Class-A. He's another speedy, athletic type player that the Cubs seem to really like these days.
