Royals send Jose Guillen to Giants

The Royals have finally unloaded outfielder Jose Guillen to the San Francisco Giants for a player to be named later and cash considerations. Guillen will give the Giants added depth in hopes of catching the red-hot San Diego Padres, who are in town playing the Giants tonight.

Guillen is hitting .255 with 16 home runs, but is a .270 career hitter. The Royals decided to designate him for assignment last Thursday to make room for hot hitting prospect Kila Ka'aihue, who is hitting .319 with 24 home runs and 78 RBIs in 94 games for Triple-A.

The Royals have tried time and time again to move Guillen and they finally were able to unload him, after he hit .253 for them over three seasons with a combined 45 home runs.

The Giants will need to demote someone before adding Guillen, and the demotion will likely fall on infielder Emmanuel Burriss. Burriss is the odd man out because the team added veteran Mike Fontenot earlier this week and will keep outfielder Nate Schierholtz, who is out of options.
