The Blue Jays announced today that they have signed pitcher Ricky Romero to a five year extension worth 30.1 million dollars, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com. The former first round pick continues his impressive run in the majors, posting a 9-7 record this season through 23 starts.
Romero is 22-16 over his two year career with a 3.94 ERA and 1.40 WHIP. He is what we consider a late bloomer, considering he was a 2005 first-round pick, a year that featured Justin Upton and Ryan Braun. Romero was the top pitcher selected.
Rosenthal points out that Romero is "3-6 with a 6.99 ERA against the Yankees and Red Sox, but 19-10 with a 3.17 ERA against all other opponents."
