Orioles pitcher Kevin Millwood, despite leading league with 14 losses, is drawing interest from the NL West leading Padres. Millwood has been pretty good in his last five starts, posting a 2.83 ERA.
Millwood is a solid all around pitcher, even if his numbers say otherwise.
The Padres could benefit from a veteran pitcher, especially one who will benefit from playing in a pitchers stadium. The Padres could take a chance on a veteran, or they could turn to someone in their minor leagues.
The Padres are not confident about acquiring a starter — they only want one who is an upgrade. Right-hander Tim Stauffer is an option to start out of the bullpen, and left-hander Cory Luebke is a combined 10-1 with a 2.68 ERA at Double A and Triple A.
Millwood would also help ease the workload of the teams younger starters.
