Red Sox sign Carlos Delgado to minor league deal

The Red Sox and Carlos Delgado have agreed to a minor league deal that calls for the slugger to be with the team by September first, at the latest.

Delgado will be paid at a rate of $20,000 per month at triple-A and will receive a pro-rated portion of $3 million in the majors. The Red Sox have agreed not to offer arbitration.

Delgado also would get $75,000 for winning ALCS MVP and $100,000 for World Series MVP.

Delgado will likely almost exclusively play DH, but could see some time at first as the team is shuffling players around with Kevin Youkilis now out for the season.
