Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sportsis reporting that the Miami Marlins have made offers to free agents Albert Pujols, Jose Reyes and Mark Buehrle. The Marlins have long been rumored to be interested in those selected free agents.
The Marlins met with Pujols today and reports earlier said that they were going to give him a tour of their new ball park tomorrow afternoon. It was reported yesterday afternoon that Pujols declined a nine year $200 million deal by the St.Louis Cardinals before the season.
It is reported that there is nothing close with the Marlins and any of these players, but it is just preliminary offers to the players to get a feel for what it would take to sign them. Signing all three could increase payroll by about $35 million. The players probably want to test the market for themselves a little more before committing. The Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees are reportedly very interested in Buehrle, while the Marlins have been one of the only teams mentioned with Pujols and Reyes.
