Evening Link Roundup

Here are a few bits and pieces from tonight's rumor mill:

  • For those of you that follow Cincinnati Red's 2B Brandon Phillips on Twitter know that he and team officials met today to discuss a contract extension. Late news out of Cincinnati today is that talks are going well. Phillips, who may have the best glove at his position in the entire league is coming off a career year. It may be a stretch, but I would not be surprised to see him sign for anywhere for 3-5 years at around $15 per. Its a modest raise, keeps him under control for a bit, and puts him at about Robinson Cano money.
  • We all thought the Cubs would be a major player in on Albert Pujols. As of now, it seems as if their interest is on pitching. We saw earlier that Sports Illustrated's Jon Heyman discussed their interest on Mark Buehrle, but now it seems as if the Cubs are in play for Bruce Chen as well. Bruce Chen could manage well as a mid rotation man in the NL.
  • The Sale of the Houston Astros is on the agenda tomorrow as Bob Nightengale reports. Here come even 15 team leagues, possibly up to 40 inter-league games per year, as well as the possibility of 3 AL East teams in the playoffs.
  • Here are some minor league signings from tonight, two from the New York Mets, one from the Chicago White Sox as well as the Kansas City Royals.
