Troy Renck of the Denver Post is reporting that the Colorado Rockies are showing interest in outfielder Jonny Gomes. The Rockies were interested in Michael Cuddyer and Josh Willingham, but may not want to give them the three year deals they are looking for, so they will look to have someone like Gomes platoon with Steve Smith.
Gomes was a player with the Tampa Bay Rays before signing with the Cincinnati Reds two years ago. He saw some moderate success in Ohio, but is not able to play everyday some people think. As a platoon player with Smith, that might be a nice fit in Colorado. The Rockies also showed interest in Grady Sizemore who instead decided to return to the Cleveland Indians for one more season.
Gomes hit just .209 in limited playing time last season, but he has some good pop and could succeed in Coors Field. What do you think? Would Gomes be a good fit with the Rockies?
