NL East Notes & Rumors: Braves, Mets, Phillies, Marlins

Getting some nice action in the National League East over the past 24 hours. Here's the latest:

  • Fine print of new labor agreement - Adam Rubin
"If the Mets hoped to exploit their large-market status by going "over slot" for draft-pick signings and by spending a lot in the international amateur market (Dominican Republic/Venezuela), that became far more difficult with the new stipulations that look to balance the playing field between large- and small-market teams."
  • Jose Reyes finishes 11th in MVP voting - Adam Rubin
"Ryan Braun captured the 2011 NL Most Valuable Player award, with Jose Reyes the lone Met to appear in the voting results, at 11th place."
  • Mets uncommitted after 2013? Not so fast - Adam Rubin
"A large percentage of the Mets' payroll will be concentrated in Johan Santana and Jason Bay through 2013, but those obligations could extend to the following season as well."
  • Wiggington Trade Likely Takes Phillies out of Running for Cuddyer - Olney
"The Phillies' trade for Ty Wigginton -- in which the Colorado Rockies will eat half of Wigginton's $4 million salary -- may well end Philadelphia's push for Michael Cuddyer. Wigginton can help fill in at first in the first half of the year when Ryan Howard will be out, and he can play third and second and be an occasional fill-in in the outfield."
