Octavio Dotel Drawing Interest from Cardinals, Reds, Tigers

Free-agent reliever Octavio Dotel is drawing interest from a number of teams including the St. Louis Cardinals, Cincinnati Reds, and Detroit Tigers according to Jon Paul Morosi. The 38 year old righty enters his 14th season in the league in 2013 and looks to continue the success he found as a member of the World Series-winning Cardinal bullpen, where he compiled a 2.61 ERA in the post season.

Morosi suggests that Dotel is a good fit as a 7th-inning guy to bridge the gap between starter and closer, but points out that he earned 22 saves only a year ago and implies he might work as a spot closer. A closer look at his stats shows that 2011 was actually one of Dotel's best seasons, with an ERA, WHIP, HR/9 and BB/9 all better than his career averages.
