Yoenis Cespedes: Free Agent, Cuban Defector, Future Yankee?

El Talento or La Potencia = The Talent or The Power, AKA undecided nickname.

Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports notes this amazingly awesome video of Yoenis Cespedes shows the talent of a "26 year-old" Cuban defector: "Cuban center fielder Yoenis Cespedes, who defected mid-summer and expects soon to be cleared for free agency, is being billed by his agents as the hitting version of Aroldis Chapman and is seeking a contract similar to the $30 million the left-handed pitcher received in 2010, according to two sources familiar with the asking price."

Passan also suggests that the Yankees are interested and might be willing to bring him to the club. Whether the club would allow him to have Christopher Cross as his walk-out music remains to be seen.

Update: Adam Kilgore of the Washington Post says that the Nationals were at the Cespedes workout as well, and the Nats, Marlins, and Phillies could all be competing with the Yankees for his services.

Update II: Juan Rodriguez of the Sun-Sentinel is reporting that the Marlins are actually the team with the inside-track to acquire Cespedes once he's eligible for free agency, which should be later this month.
