Cleveland Indians Seriously Talking to Jose Lopez

The Cleveland Indians and Jose Lopez are in serious talks according to Jon Paul Morosi of FOXSports.com. Morosi suggests the club is looking to balance out their lefty lineup with a right-handed bat. There's no telling why the Indians consider Lopez "a bat," though:

  • Source: Indians, Jose Lopez in serious talks - Jon Paul Morosi
"The Indians, looking for a right-handed bat to help balance their predominantly left-handed lineup, have had serious discussions with free-agent infielder Jose Lopez, a major-league source told FOXSports.com."
  • Lopez, 28, has played 8 seasons at several positions and currently holds a career triple slash .263 / .294 / .398, but his average has been dropping considerably since 2008 (.297) -- 2009 (.272); 2010 (.239); 2011 (.216).
  • Morosi points out that the Indians have been looking to upgrade over Matt LaPorta and implies this could be further proof. I'm not sure if that helps Cleveland fans feel better, though.
