Cincinnati Reds Acquire Mat Latos From San Diego Padres

Ken Rosenthal from FOX Sports is reporting that the Cincinnati Reds have acquired left handed pitcher Mat Latos from the San Diego Padres for top prospect first baseman Yonder Alonso.

The Reds have been trying to figure out what to do with Alonso for years, as their top prospect while they already have former National League MVP Joey Votto to man the first base position. The Reds could also be sending more to the Padres, but Alonso is one of the pieces for sure.

Latos will help better a Reds starting rotation that needed it for sure. They have made it no secret that they wanted a better rotation, and now they have a solid top of the rotation left handed pitcher. He will likely be their number two starter, with Johnny Cueto as #1. Latos is not yet arbitration eligible, another perk about the acquisition. Alonso makes things interesting in San Diego with Anthony Rizzo already there, though he struggled last season in the MLB.
