Ken Rosenthal is reporting that the Washington Nationals have signed Mike Cameron, beating out presumed interest by the Cleveland Indians. Bill Ladson, Nats beat reporter for MLB.com, confirms the deal and says Cameron will likely be a bench addition and/or platoon with Roger Bernadina:
- Twitter / @Ken_Rosenthal - "Source: #Nationals reach agreement with free-agent OF Mike Cameron. #MLB #Indians"
-
Twitter / @washingnats - "I have confirmed that Mike Cameron has agreed to terms with the #Nats."
-
Twitter / @washingnats - "Mike Cameron will come off the bench or platoon in center field with Roger Bernadina."
Cameron, 38 (wow has he really been around that long?), enters his 18th season and is likely looking at his last contract, if not his last shot to play in the bigs. He's a career .249 / .338 / .444 hitter, but 2011 was particularly frustrating as he hit just .203 / .285 / .359 in 269 plate appearances.
