Some rumors and news going on with the New York Mets:

  • Andrew Keh of the New York Times says that Sandy Alderson, the Mets general manager, said that he has not been in contact with free agent catcher Jorge Posada or his representatives despite earlier reports that the Mets rejected Posada.
  • Matt Snyder from CBS Sports says that the Mets and Miami Marlins may be the last contenders for the services of free agent short stop Jose Reyes. Reyes is a free agent from the Mets, and it has been known that the Marlins are targeting him.
  • Troy Renck of the Denver Post mentions that the Colorado Rockies would be interested in Jeff Mathis from the Angels, but also notes that the New York Mets could pursue Mathis if he becomes available to them.
  • Jon Heyman from SI.com tweets that the Mets are interested in Boston Red Sox free agent catcher Jason Varitek, who has been the Red Sox back up for three years.
