Kansas City Royals Sign Yuniesky Betancourt

Today, the Kansas City Royals have announced that they have signed short stop Yuniesky Betancourt. Betancourt was a former Royal, and was traded to the Milwaukee Brewers along with Zack Greinke last season.

Royals general manager Dayton Moore released this statement:

"We have been looking for a utility infielder who could play short, third and second base and we feel Yuni is a great fit," Royals GM Dayton Moore said in a statement. "He brings a right-handed bat with some power and is a guy we know fits in well in the clubhouse."

He will be a back up middle infielder next season, with former Brewer Alcides Escobar (for whom he was previously traded) as the starting shortstop for the Royals. He is on the 40 man roster, where there is only 39 players currently on that roster. The terms of the contract with Betancourt have not yet been announced by the Royals, Brewers or the agent of Betancourt.
