Chatter: Cole Kimball, Diamondbacks, Carlos Silva

Links for today, as the Nationals have designated RHP Brian Broderick for assignment following an unsuccessful stint with the team. The former Cardinals farm hand was selected by the Nationals with their second pick in the Rule 5 Draft.

  • Cole Kimball was called up by the Nationals today, and as MLB.com's Bill Ladson notes, he's the first Nationals draftee from 2006 to make his Major League debut.
  • After being asked about the Diamondbacks unprotected pick at number seven in the upcoming draft, Baseball America's Jim Callishears that the DBacks "will take the best player and not worry about the unprotected pick."
  • Carlos Silva will start for the Trenton Thunder today, the Yankees Double-A affiliate, according to Trenton Thunder Beat Writer Michael Ashmore. The Yankees signed Silva to a Minor League Deal back in early April.
