The Phillies designated LHP J.C. Romero for assignment, replacing him with RHP Vance Worley.

Romero was released by the Boston Red Sox in June of 2007 and promptly signed with the Phillies, posting a 1.24 ERA in 36 innings of relief. He later re-signed with the Phillies in November on a three-year $12 million deal, and signed with them once more this January.

In 24 games (16.1 IP) this year, Romero had posted a 3.86 ERA with ten strikeouts and twelve walks.
