In case you didn't notice, Wily Mo Pena has been absolutely tearing the ball up this year for Arizona's Triple-A affiliate. And according to this tweet from Nick Cafardo of The Boston Globe, "[Arizona is] considering promoting former Red Sox OF Wily Mo Pena for interleague play."
I wrote about Pena sheer dominance in a post for Beyond the Box Score a few weeks ago, and very little about his baseball destroying antics has changed since then. The 29-year-old leads the PCL in homers, slugging percentage and OPS, has the seventh-best OBP in the league, and has one less RBI than the league-leader, recently called-up first baseman Anthony Rizzo.
When he was posting these kinds of numbers in mid-May, I wondered how long it would take for the D-Backs to give him a legitimate shot. With Willie Bloomquist and Xavier Nady around as the club's primary back-up outfielders, now may be a good time for the Snakes to see what Ol' Wily Mo can do.
