Disabled List Updates: Jeff Niemann, Chris Coghlan

The DL on the DL

Updates from around Major League Baseball on players who are "freshly back" from the disabled list or "newly gone" to the DL.

Freshly Back:
  • Tampa Bay Rays RHP Jeff Niemann: Niemann was on the DL for a total of 46 days after being placed there on May 5th with a lower back strain. Niemann was drafted by the Rays as the 4th pick in the 2004 draft and has not turned into a star of any sort, with a career ERA well over 4. Alex Cobb was optioned to Triple-A Durham yesterday.
Newly Gone:
  • Florida Marlins CF Chris Coghlan - 15-Day DL retroactive to June 17th, Left knee inflammation. Coghlan was initially optioned to Triple-A New Orleans, but was instead found to be injured. He will continue to draw a major league salary and accrue service time while on the disabled list. Dewayne Wise was called up last Wednesday.
