The DL on the DL
Updates from around Major League Baseball on players who are "freshly back" from the disabled list or "newly gone" to the DL.
Freshly Back:
- Tampa Bay Rays RHP Jeff Niemann: Niemann was on the DL for a total of 46 days after being placed there on May 5th with a lower back strain. Niemann was drafted by the Rays as the 4th pick in the 2004 draft and has not turned into a star of any sort, with a career ERA well over 4. Alex Cobb was optioned to Triple-A Durham yesterday.
Newly Gone:
- Florida Marlins CF Chris Coghlan - 15-Day DL retroactive to June 17th, Left knee inflammation. Coghlan was initially optioned to Triple-A New Orleans, but was instead found to be injured. He will continue to draw a major league salary and accrue service time while on the disabled list. Dewayne Wise was called up last Wednesday.
