Pirates Looking for Lefty Reliever; Roster Moves Incoming

New, comment

The Pittsburgh Pirates are going to make several roster moves to make room for a lefty reliever, assuming they find one, reports Pittsburgh Tribune's Rob Biertempfel.

Daniel Moskos is the only current option while Joe Beimel is on the DL, so Tony Watson or Justin Thomas might be potential call-ups from Triple-A Indianapolis.

Other Pirates News and Rumors:

  • Pedro Alvarez and Ross Ohlendorf are both closer to rehab stints. Alvarez should rehab "soon" and Ohlendorf is currently throwing bullpen sessions.
  • The Pirates front office has already decided who to pick #1 overall in the 2011 MLB Draft, but refuses to confirm officially for contract negotiation purposes. Rumors currently have the Pirates selecting pitching prospect Gerrit Cole.
  • Unlike many clubs around the league throughout the season, the attendance at PNC Park was up for the Phillies series, drawing over 35,000 fans on Sunday and almost 110,000 for the weekend. Some good attendance news, finally.
